Another milestone in the sporting history of the Nelson district was passed at the beginning of last month, with the opening of the Nelson Squash Rackets Club’s new courts at Rutherford Park. The courts, and the club, were born 10 months ago during a discussion among several Nelson men. The formation of a club seemed feasible, and upon further investigation, an interim committee found the necessary support. Through their initiative and drive, the courts were commenced in July and completed four months later. At that time the club closed its foundation membership at 100 members. The new building adjoins the Nelson Tennis Club’s pavilion and incorporates an airy gallery and refreshment lounge as well as shower and dressing rooms.
